The Warehouse
On Friday Mike, Andy, Mike’s sister Michelle and her fiance (also named Mike) and Kajeersten (phonetically spelled) went to this place called The Warehouse (http://www.warehousecafe.net/). The website makes it look classy, but i can’t decide if that’s false advertising. Let me first tell you that it was really really good. It has exactly five things on the menu (lobster, king crab legs, steaks, shrimp scampi, and surf and turf).
We went to Mikefiance (now one word, pictured above) and Michelle’s house which i haven’t seen yet. So cute! It’s an adorable little house. Then we went somewhere else (Vacaville, maybe? I lost track) to pick up Michelle’s friend who joined us. Then we started our pilgrimage to the restaurant, which was another... i have no concept of time, so i’ll just say it took us an hour. You cross this bridge and turn down this winding gravel road and eventually a little town pops up out of nowhere. The road levels off and about a minute after you start passing houses you get to this big old warehouse (go figure) on the bank of the body of water. It’s under the bridge, basically, and really doesn’t look like much at all. I really like that, though. It sort of hints that their focus is on something other than pristine decor, and that appeals to me. On the inside, it’s a biker bar/restaurant, complete with waitresses that you would expect to see there.
I got the crab legs which were the biggest frigging things i’ve ever seen, and i think andy got the surf and turf. My leftovers alone were enough to make some cold salad rolls and a crab salad for the next day or two. they were massive. The thing that really got to me, though, was that the crab skeleton actually smelled like salt water. I’ve never experienced that before, and that blew me away.
The meal comes with a potato and a buffet salad bar with chili and chowder and other things. They’re known for having a lot of beer (no mention of it on the menu), so when you tell the waitress that you want a bottle, they’ll take you around to the kitchen to their walk-in beer cooler, which in and of itself is a little drool-worthy. I’m not sure if Mike has any photos of it (he could have been a little wide-eyed at the selection). I got a raspberry beer from belgium that came corked. It was very sweet and a little tart, but man it was good. It tasted exactly like the SunRype Raspberry juice mixed with a light beer, like a Stella. Definitely not something that you would drink regularly, but a great little treat.
(look at how cute my man looks!)
Waddling home, Mike stayed the night (we didn’t get home until ten thirty) and we played video games and ate some (homemade!!!!) vanilla ice cream with some peach wonton triangles (think portable peach pie) to go on top of them. the cold ice cream and the warm peach things were just the perfect pair.
