elizabeth zimmermann's lap blanket

can't decide on what the color pattern should be. here are two frontrunner combinations:

any suggestions, internet? i'm partial to the combination on the bottom picture, but i don't know if i like how the two darkest and two lightest colors are next to each other... kind of makes it seem unbalanced, in my opinion. these colors aren't photographed at an exact match... and the camera isn't picking up on the really pretty details. these squares are knit from the inside out, so the stitches follow the direction of the square. when you put them together, it should look like it was knitted from all directions. also, the yarn was a splurge of a kettle-dye, so there are these beautiful little rings that appear, since the color is intentionally uneven. i'll try to take some pictures that will pick that up when i do a final project posting.

anyway, i've been playing around a lot with these colors, and i can't seem to find a pattern that makes it look nice .keep in mind there will be a white border surrounding the individual squares and the whole blanket. maybe even a scalloped edge if i'm feelin' sassy.
