it's a big day for the Third Wheel

today is the day that the third wheel, mike, is getting a new best friend. he adopted a pot bellied pig named Peanut (!!!!) from an online pig adoption site. he is already in love with this thing, and for good reason. she's a cute, pudgy little gal who gets daily exercise by walking to the end of the driveway and back, baited with grapes. the old owner loved her very much, and stayed in his house (we think he's recently divorced) for an extra year so he could keep her for longer. she's a really sweet pig who gets vegetables as a treat and enjoys belly rubs.





if you're not emitting high-pitched sighs by now, here are more reasons: she's potty trained, she's an indoor/outdoor pig, she comes with her own igloo doghouse (that just melted me), and really seems to respond to what you're actually saying... the old owner said that she could tell his intent, would know when a walk was coming even before he reached for a leash or mentioned it aloud, and seems to have different grunts for approval/excitement/disapproval. adorable, and i'm insanely jealous.



for the past week he's had nothing but pigs on the brain (sends us texts with nothing but "piigggggggggg" as a message, or just has faraway looks in his eyes when idle for more than a minute), so i know this new pal is going to a good home. we've got a pool going on how long it'll take until mike joins some "men who want to marry pigs" groups. he already loves her that much.




update: got a text late last night with a picture of mike behind the wheel of his car and (though it's hard to make out in the dark) two little ears poking out from the back seat. looks like he got it home okay... no word yet on the engagement.
