new work-in-progress

well, i know that the finished pictures from the candle flame stole are already uploaded to flickr, but i want to give the mail another day or so to get to where it's going before i post them here. until then, lookie at what i started this weekend!

this year's glorious spring break, which had ended this morning, was great for relaxing but horrible for knitting. after finishing the stole on monday, i would being a new project, knit it all day, and then either that night or early the next morning, i would rip it out and start a new one. the color wasn't right, i didn't like how my smallest size long needles made the project look, didn't like the yarn weight, didn't like the pattern, etc etc etc. this literally happened monday through saturday, every day. how is that for disappointing?

i think this time i've got a winner. the "gust" pattern knits up very quickly and it's really easy to memorize the pattern after a repeat or two. the color is cute, too, kind of a heathered aquamarine (knit picks' tidepool heather in fingering weight). i'm making it for our next door neighbor who will be doing various residencies across the country for the next few months in hopes of being a dermatologist, one of the most competitive medical fields available. they invited us over after kind of a hilarious afternoon to their Picnic Day party and it was a ton of fun. mike came with and it was a great saturday, which led to a sunday of camping out on the couch and remaining half-awake-half-asleep until at least two in the afternoon.
