Co-captain Furpants

So when we drove up, Andy and Mike spent most of the trip in the moving truck, trading driving duties. The kitty and I followed behind in the car and I was surprised by how relaxed she was. we kept her food on the floor of the backseat, and she stretched out over a towel and slept most of the way. She even spent the night in the car when we stayed at a hotel that we couldn't sneak her into.

Cabled Raglan Baby Sweater /gratuitous kitty photos

this came together over two or three days, and i am really in love with the color, shibuiknits in peony. i caught some good light for about 15 minutes, so here are some photos of it blocking. i haven't taken any finished pictures, but it looks the same as the photos with just a missing big wooden button at the top below the collar, so just use your imaginations until i can get one:

Captain Furpants

our little buddy was very sick last week. sick to the sickness level of considering kitty surgery. turns out it worked itself out, but basically what happened was that she started looking a little "extra fatty" during one day last week and then puked, like, 18 times all over our rugs and carpets later that night and into the morning while we slept. i'm not kidding. she puked near or around 18 times. i mean, i know she's fat, but how can someone/thing puke actual substance up 18 times and still not get too hungry?? it sort of made me come to terms with her obesity.

annnnyway, 2 days later we took her to the vet. $800 later, she was given a blood test, urine test, xray, sonogram, stool test, and received three (3) suppositories. thanks a lot for not at all diagnosing the issue and paving the way for more "expository exams", cat clinic. i mean, i put my absolute faith in the vet and was pleased with the service, but come on.... their timing is impeccable. oh really, you took a blood test because she was knocked out and want my approval to run the test that may or may not be necessary while you show me my kitty who is super disoriented from meds and looks really "sick"? i admit that i played into it, but it remained with me as i was driving her home and taking care of her just how much i take for granted the good graces of the cat vet. the thing that bothers me is that i'm taking this man's word for truth and when i drive away feeling uneasy at having to pay in advance for blood tests and urinalysis (a quarter of the bill, let me say) that turned out were unnecessary, it irks me a bit. i'm not laying blame and i'm not trying to sound cynical, but feeling helpless about a medical opinion really sucks, especially because people usually only take their pets to veterinarians when there's something seriously wrong. i'm basically at their mercy and how can that, in this day and age, not make one uneasy? getting another opinion would mean shelling out at least half as much as my current bill is, so there's a definite discourage to do that.

and also, i get it. if i'm going to be complaining about kitty health care costs, i should get kitty health care, but (i get that i'm at this point very conspiracy theorist) doesn't that *also* sound like kind of a sham in itself?

ahg.

anyway, it seems like she's pooping fine. it turns out she ate a bunch of my plastic bike streamers (i'm not going to mention why the streamers have been sitting there for four months and not on my bike because i feel like the party or parties involved should feel guilty enough independently without my prodding) and they stuck in her stomach or throat causing her to try and puke it out all over our floors.

so i took this opportunity to take 1 video of her when she got home looking really high (i ran out of memory.. .there were lots of stumbly-drunky moments that i failed to capture) and a couple pics of her totally passed out on the ottoman that she later pooped on. consider this the product of our worry, wringing hands, constant poop-checking and nervous check-ins.
