July Challenge

so i'm really excited about July, and I'll tell you why:

For all of this month, we're living as if we're really poor. like, dirty hippie poor. we want to pay off a line of credit as quickly as possible and we figured we could cut out all unnecessaries and go without extras if it means that we have no balance on our line of credit.

so in the interest of joining the cause, i want to cut the food bill in half this month, while still keeping up with our great eating habits of late and ensuring that we don't get sick of eating at home and break down and order something to eat.

in preparation i spent all last weekend pulling out each and every cookbook i own, scouring the pages for new ideas and interesting methods for using humble ingredients.
to make things even harder, we've been eating up most of the stuff in the freezer, so cheating-by-reheating is not exactly possible. i'll preface it by saying there *are* tamales, a few scallops, a quart of veal fat, a quart of fish stock, and 2 quarts of chicken stock in there. but that's all, i swear.

so i'm not exactly sure how detailed i'm going to get (i even thought of breaking down every entry into per-meal cost, but that might be a little too overboard) but i've been taking photos and writing down ideas into actual (albeit loose) recipes and measurements. it's good practice for me to do this, in case i forget things that i thought were fully committed to memory.

so, in a nutshell, that's the July Challenge!
