He does a 'touring america in a stupid convertible eating at greasy spoons and talking about how "money" things are' show. he also has another show and it has decent recipes however his overwhelmingly annoying television personality keeps those little culinary gems he may have unseen.
oh, and he also has a restaurant chain in california. and we went there. it's east-meets-west in a really random way. i actually got a recommendation to go here from Steph, my knitting/book club friend. the main reason why i wanted to go was because she said she's been there 3 or 4 times and every single time either Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon has been playing, or Zorro 2. Random, right?
so we went to "Tex Wasabi's" on a whim. and i say "Tex Wasabi's" in quotations because the name comes out of my mouth as if it is in quotations. Given the animated logo of a cowboy riding a Koi fish, or the "descriptive" names for their food (Killer Egg Rolls, The "Bomb" Calamari, Hidden Chicken, Crouching Salad, etc.), I hope I'm not faulted for my food snobbery. I hope that I have adequately described the foolishness that goes on. I also wished that I took more pictures of the "ambiance" of mid-80s Roman drapery mixed with Asian-influenced wall art and weird wooden things.
Anyway, so it was pretty overpriced for what it actually was, but it wasn't necessarily bad at all, as I'm sure this post is convincing you it was. And I take responsibility for our fru-fru attitude towards trying new things. When we break out of our weekend-dining-experience mold (read: something that's not BJ's Brewhouse, Sudwerk Brewhouse, or TGIFridays) it's always a little daunting. We are all creatures of habit, and doing something new on a Saturday night is not something that happens often. Also, Mike had imbibed before leaving the house and this was a pretty hilarious video that I took on the way there:
