squirrel mittens
current work-in-progress that has been put on the shelf for the next few weeks are these really cute squirrel mittens. it's my first time trying colorwork again since probably over a year and a half ago, and i'm using this pattern to really get good at two handed knitting, where you keep the main color in your regular hand and then in your other you hold the contrast color (the dark purple, in this case). it took a little getting used to, and this isn't something i can do yet while actually having to pay attention to something else. as a result i've been burning through my Hulu queue with throwaway shows that don't take up a vast amount of brainpower to watch. oh, and that hem? yes, please notice it. notice because it took me a really long time to get right. and it's pretty, yes? it was worth the time and aggravation? boy i hope so.
nerd talk:
i'll explain: you cast on and start knitting 10 or so rows, then do a row of yo and k2togethers and then knit another ten rows. Then, you flip the bottom edge up on the inside and basically sew a hem with your knitting, so that the bottom edge is now the yo/k2tog row. it took forever because i cavalierly thought that i could just "wing" picking up the stitches to hem, but then i'd get a 1/3 of the way through and realize that i've picked up stitches from, like, 8 different rows. i eventually picked up the back stitches with a circular needle, then lined them up parallel to the needle with my live stitches and knit them both in the same direction. not sure if it messed me up for the lining, but i can't imagine how it could have.

the lining is going to be doubleknit with misti alpaca lace in this cute easter yellow:
