surprise overnight herb rolls

so, yes, they were a surprise, and no, they were not made overnight. but they could be, and that's the important thing.
I've been heavily immersing myself in recipes lately. sometimes i let the southern living (thank you, barbara) and the sunset (thank you, andy) sit on the living room table for a couple of issues, being joined by others who are also collecting dust until i suddenly get fidgety and devour them in one sitting. yesterday was one of those days, and i've been staring at this recipe for overnight herb rolls for a few weeks. originally as part of a thanksgiving recipe collection in Sunset, i can now see why. i was picturing those light fluffy clouds that unravel like cottton candy in your mouth and are almost too light to retain any structural integrity.

what i got instead was a heartier bread, something strong enough to scoop up gravy and offset stuffing. it's got this sweet and salty combination that is unquestionably addictive. i mean, it's awesome. we both ate two (these are big rolls) without even breathing, and i kept shoving bites into my mouth in between taking pictures.

i'd post the recipe, but i'm going to try and tweak it a bit and then post again with explanations.
